Communicating your story
My name is Simeon and I am a freelance filmmaker. In 2018 I completed a degree in film with Falmouth University. I spent much of my time there looking at documentaries and seeking to understand how we tell stories truthfully, when so much happens out of the frame what responsibility does the filmmaker have to break the boundaries of the screen. I then moved to Norwich and have spent 4 years in hospitality working for Kofra Coffee, a company that takes coffee and hospitality seriously. It was a great door step into this great city and became a great space for me to try things out. My degree taught me a lot about filmmaking and how to think but not necessarily how to work hard (I highly recommend working behind a bar on your own for 10 hours to develop this skill). I believe that hospitality is an industry that is very closely related to documentary filmmaking, how do you make someone feel comfortable and confident and then how do you ask the right question to create a space for dialogue?
This becomes the foundation for my filmmaking.
